It’s the beginning of the new year, and time for Elder Connection’s launch of a new season of fun and adventure. In 2009 Faith in Action started its social activity program named Elder Connection. And since then, care receivers and volunteers alike have enjoyed sharing experiences, going to area restaurants and attractions and partying together. Friendships have been forged, and bonds created through the camaraderie.
The 2014 schedule of social events is ready to be revealed. No event is planned for January. But in February, we’ll have lunch at the Ginger Buffet in Fairview Heights. We’ll meet at the restaurant at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 8. Participants pay for their own food, and volunteers are available for transportation.
For the rest of the year, we’ll lunch at familiar restaurants, like the Happy Cow in Caseyville and Ravanelli’s in Collinsville. We’re planning a St. Patrick’s Day party in March. By popular demand, we’re going back to Eckert’s in Belleville in October. And we’ve added a trip up the River Road to Calhoun County, with a family style lunch at the Wittmond Hotel in Brussels. Locales are chosen for tasty and affordable meals and easy accessibility. There are other surprises planned during the year. Our care receivers won’t want to miss a thing! Schedules will be mailed to care receivers and churches this month.
Elder Connection social events are open to individuals who are registered as care receivers of Faith in Action. You need to talk to Beth Baker, FIA’s volunteer coordinator, to register as a care receiver. All it takes is a phone call to 344-8080.
