Holy Cross Church Building is 100 years old this year!
We will be celebrating the centennial of this grand building on Sept. 13 with festival worship at both Sunday services. Hymns and anthems sung at the dedication of the building in 1915 will be sung and retired pastor Ron Jansen will be the guest preacher. Pastor Jansen did much work in documenting the history of our congregation and church building when he was with us.
After the 10:30 service, a light lunch will be served, and we will open the time capsule preserved in the cornerstone of the church in an outside ceremony at 1:00 PM. Local dignitaries, former members, current members, friends of the congregation, and people interested in the history of Collinsville and the Missouri Synod are all invited.
To commemorate this event, a ‘walking tour’ through the church with a brief overview of the stained glass windows is being prepared and local photographer John Locus will have photos for sale of these exquisite windows. Order forms will be available in the back of the church and in the church office soon.
We are in the process of collecting newspaper clippings, documents, and artifacts from 1915 to display as part of this celebration. If you have anything from 1915 you wish to donate, please contact the church office or a member of the Anniversary Committee: Diane Meyer, Lisa Durham, or Karen Shimkus.
