You can make a donation to our Comfort Dog Ministry Fund at any time! We are looking to build up our fund so that we can cover costs of the dog and of outreach we will be doing. You may use the Comfort Dog Ministry envelopes available in the racks as you come in and out of church and place donations in the doghouse in the back of church. Watch the Messenger and bulletin next month for more information about upcoming fundraisers!
We are currently in touch with Lutheran Church Charities and following the process they have set out regarding Comfort Dog Ministry in congregations. The next step is our Coordinator of this ministry, Deaconess Kelly (whom Lutheran Church Charities designates as “Top Dog,”) will undergo a thorough training regarding this ministry. This will likely occur later this month or early next month. After this, the person interested in serving as Caregiver will interview with Lutheran Church Charities and then go through a training. Then, we will be asking those interested to fill out applications to serve as handlers and Lutheran Church Charities will help us in determining who will serve in this capacity. Several people in our congregation have expressed interest in serving as handlers. Watch for information about when applications will be available!
Please keep this ministry in your prayers. And prayerfully consider giving a donation to help us keep moving forward! Visit the Lutheran Church Charities website: http://www.lutheranchurchcharities.org and click on the Ministries Link and then on K-9 Comfort Dog Link, for more information about this ministry. Contact Deaconess Kelly if you would like to get involved with Comfort Dog Ministry at Holy Cross!
