Whether you are new to Holy Cross or an “old timer”, come join in the traditional “old-fashioned apple butter cooking.” We are asking all of our Holy Cross Church and School families to participate in making this another successful year. We are asking that you and your family give at least an hour of your time! It is a great way to meet your Holy Cross family!!!
Friday, September 25th – Meet in the Cafeteria to help with peeling & coring apples beginning at 8:30a.m. Friday’s work typically can be finished by 2:00 p.m. or so if we have a great number of volunteers. (bring paring knife and bowl to peel) After the apples have been peeled and cored, they have to be washed. (At least 6 people are needed to help wash the apples.)
Saturday, September 26th – Outside help on Saturday consists of starting fires at 4:00 a.m., setting up the kettles, begin stirring kettles by 6:30 a.m. and continue stirring until apple butter is complete (typically around 2:00 p.m.) Inside help on Saturday consists of prepping jars, lids and seals; keeping food and drink readily available for all; filling jars once apple butter is cooked and filling orders to be picked up beginning after the 6:00 service on Saturday.
Donations needed: wood (not painted or treated), sugar, clean canning pint jars, ring and seal sets of regular and wide mouth size are needed. (See apple in the back of church)
Due to the great demand for our apple butter, we suggest you order early. If you have any questions, want to know more about our Apple Butter Festival or want to volunteer your time, please contact Laura Cawvey. See you there!!!
You can order regular or, new this year, “all natural” (no sugar or sweetner added) by contacting: Sonja Witte or Karen Langley.
