Apple Butter Festival!
Friday, September 27th and Saturday, September 28th
Whether you are new to Holy Cross or an “old timer”, come join in the traditional “old-fashioned apple butter cooking”. We are asking all of our Holy Cross Church and School families to participate in making this another successful year. We are asking that you and your family give at least an hour of your time! It is a great way to meet your Holy Cross family!
We will begin peeling apples on Friday, September 27th @ 8:30 a.m. Fires will be started at 4:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 28th. Help on Friday consists of peeling, coring and washing the peeled apples in order for them to be ready for cooking early on Saturday morning. Friday’s work typically can be finished by 1:00 p.m. or so if we have a great number of volunteers (bring paring knife and bowl to peel!). Outside help on Saturday consists of starting fires at 4:00 a.m., setting up the kettles, begin stirring by 6:30 a.m. and continue stirring until apple butter is complete (typically between 12:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.). Inside help on Saturday consists of prepping jars, lids and seals; keeping food and drink readily available for all; filling jars once apple butter is cooked and filling orders to be picked up beginning after the 6:00 p.m. service on Saturday.
Donations of wood (not painted or treated), sugar, (some splenda, only, for the sugar free kettle), clean canning pint jars, ring and seal sets of wide mouth size are needed.
The of everything is rising…but not our Apple Butter — pints will be $5 and quarts will be $7. The sugar-free apple butter will be $6 for pints and $8 for quarts. For orders, please contact Sonja Witte or Karen Langley. Orders will be taken through Friday, September 27th.
The proceeds of apple butter will be going towards the scholarship fund. If you have any questions, want to know more about our Apple Butter Festival or want to volunteer your time, please contact Karen Langley, Brenda Gasser or Laura Cawvey. See you there!
